The vision of Durham International Schools is to deliver outstanding education to young people around the world. At the very heart of this initiative is the resolve to inspire young minds and to instil in students a ‘Confidence for life’. This stems from Durham School’s long-standing tradition of academic, pastoral, sporting and cultural excellence.

Durham Schools offer a truly holistic education. We encourage the students to work hard and follow their passions. Our students go on to study in elite Russell Group universities in the United Kingdom and to other top universities around the world. Our alumni excel and lead in professions as varied and diverse as finance, engineering, medicine and the arts.

We have three international schools currently open with four more under development. Each school operates in its own context, with consideration given to local norms and expectations, while also being grounded in a strong British curriculum.

Durham International Schools work in close partnership with the Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation. There are annual quality assurance visits to each school to give relevant feedback on growth and development and offering the best possible education. The Heads of each school meet termly to share best practice and discuss developments and issues and this in turn has led to department heads meeting termly to discuss curriculum and examinations.

Message from the Director of International Operations

The rapid growth of our overseas schools is reflective of the high quality holistic education that children receive at a Durham school. Our schools are popular with parents and students thrive in our care. We employ outstanding teachers who, at their core, love working with children and are focused on dynamic, inspirational and student-centred teaching.

In my role it is a joy to develop a school from inception and watch it grow to fruition and open its doors to the public. Durham School UK works closely with our regional partners to ensure the highest quality of care and curriculum for the students, taking into consideration cultural norms and expectations. We have experience working with local education authorities and ensuring compliance in regulatory matters.

Durham international schools receive accreditation from organisations including the Council of British Overseas Schools (COBIS) and British Schools Overseas (BSO) ensuring we offer the highest possible standards in education. We have over 600 years of tradition and a track record of excellence that helps our branch schools succeed.

Durham UK

Durham School is one of the UK’s oldest schools, with a 600-year tradition of academic, sporting and cultural excellence.

Durham School’s history stretches back centuries, certainly to 1414 and the re-organisation of the school by Thomas Langley, and some would claim even further back to the monastic settlement on Lindisfarne that came to Durham City 900 years ago.

Durham Dubai is a branch school of Durham UK, one of the oldest schools in the UK with a 600-year history of academic excellence. As such, we are able to draw upon the skills and experience of our colleagues in the UK and in our other international schools in Qatar and Kenya. Durham is a truly international organisation its roots may be in the UK, but its outlook is global.

Our dictum and our aim, ‘confidence for life’ is achieved through academic attainment but as importantly, the development of good manners, moral integrity and responsibility as well as kindness and respect.

Following in the footsteps of Durham School UK, Durham School for Girls Doha aims to continue with the strong pastoral care, inclusion and individual progress that make the school Distinctively Durham. Within the school there is a strong ethos based on the school philosophy and values. Centered around the girls’ individual development, the school aims to ensure that it offers a balance of academic and social progress made ensuring a confidence for life.

Durham Kenya

Every child deserves the best possible start as they begin their educational journey. At Durham International Nursery & Pre-Prep School, we deliver a creative curriculum guided by the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and English National Curriculum, drawing on a wide range of early years pedagogies and enhanced by the exciting learning opportunities available in Kenya.

The wider ambitions of the project are to establish a full Primary and a Secondary School.
